As his original aim in life was to become a chef, he studied kaiseki cuisine at Nunobiki in Kobe and trained in Kitcho cuisine at the predecessor of Osaka Namba Monzo. Inspired to pursue ceramics by the work of Kitaoji Rosanjin. Studied pottery under Kimura Munetoki and Miyashita Zenji.
