From Kyoto. Graduated from the Faculty of Ceramics at Kyoto Saga University of Arts Junior College in 1974. Later worked as an Instructor at a pottery school. Started making ceramics in Mashiko in 1978. Became independent the following year. Works while ceaselessly returning to the origin of ceramics.
