Born as the eldest son of Hachizan XII, he studied under his father and had been working in the family business since graduating college. In addition, for one year from 1993, he trained under the Daitokuji Temple Hirotokuzenji Chief Priest Fukutomi Settei and Fukutomi Kaiun.
Upon returning to the kiln, he studied pieces of pottery from the abandoned kiln’s ruins and began taking pottery making seriously. In 1998, he was given the pen name Muichian by the Enshu Tea Ceremony School Head Kobori Sokei. In 1999 he inherited the name of the 13th generational head of the Takatori ware family. The following year, he held an exhibition under his new name at the main store of the Mitsukoshi Department Store in Tokyo, and since then has exhibited his work at solo exhibitions at department stores in various locations.
In addition, he was invited to exhibited in 2001 at the World Ceramics Expo and the Korean Ceramic Decedents Exhibition, and in 2003 at the Contemporary Korean-Japanese Ceramics Exhibition.
