Born in Myoko-Ikenodaira, Niigata Prefecture. He opened Myoko-yaki Takai Pottery studio in 1977. He has won prizes at the Niigata Contemporary Craft Exhibition, the Musashino Traditional Craft Exhibition, the New Work Exhibition, the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, and the Prefectural Exhibition. His works have been exhibited at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Department Store, Kichijoji Kintetsu Department Store, and Shinjuku Isetan Department Store. Solo exhibitions at Takadayama in Joetsu City, Niigata Italia-ken, Yamato, and Kuroda Toen in Ginza. Focused on cinnabar and celadon.
