Kuroda Taizo 黒田泰蔵

1946–2021maleKuroda Taizo was born in 1946. After moving to Paris at the age of 20 and discovering ceramics in Canada in 1967, Kuroda returned to Japan and built a kiln in Ito City in 1991, and held his first solo exhibition in 1982. Since 1992, when he first exhibited white porcelain works, this has become the center of his creativity.He had continued to produce pure works that fulfill his self-expression. (more…)

Kiyomizu Rokubey 8th 八代 清水六兵衛

1954-malekyo potteryRokubey VIII was born in Kyoto in 1954 as the eldest son of the seventh generation. After graduating from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University in 1979, he studied pottery wheel at the Kyoto Prefectural Vocational Training School for Ceramic Art and glazing at the Kyoto Municipal Industrial Research Institute before starting his career as a potter. Juodo Shosen 十王堂松泉

1902-1990maletokoname potteryHis real name is Kataoka Akitsugu. He founded Kataoka factory in 1919 and started manufacturing plant pots. In 1950, he started exporting bonsai pots, and in 1970, he established Yamaaki Co., Ltd. and led Tokoname ware, one of the six oldest kilns in Japan, to the present day with his management skills. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1990 at the age of 89.He is famous for his carefully crafted vermiculated work bonsai pots and painted bonsai pots. (more…)

Ko Shosen 小松泉

1943-maleReal name is Kataoka Sadamitsu. He is the second generation of Yamaaki-Seito pottery studio and has been calling himself “Ko-Shosen (means small Shosen)” since 1985.After the death of the founder of Yamaaki Seito, Juodo-Shosen I, Sadamitsu assumed the name “Shosen”.Unfortunately, Yamaaki Seito went out of business in 2013 during the third generation Shosen.
