Born in Kyoto. Graduated from the Ceramics Department of the Second Technical School of Kyoto, joined the Young Potters’ Association in 1946, formed Sodeisha in 1948, and participated in Sodeisha Exhibition since then. Invited to and won an award at the First Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition of Japan. Awarded the Japan Ceramic Society Prize. Prague International Exhibition Gold Prize. Gold Prize at the International Exhibition of Vallauris. Minister of Trade Prize, Faenza International Exhibition. Awarded Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition. Awarded the 1st Fujiwara Kei Memorial Prize. In 1979, he became a professor at Kyoto University of Arts, where he has held many exhibitions and solo exhibitions. Participated in the Japan Avant-garde Exhibition in France in 1987. His works are mainly celadon, white porcelain, kaito (one of the ancient Chinese earthenware), and decorative porcelain.
