Born in Akita Prefecture. After graduating from the University of Posts and Telecommunications, he decided to study Bizen Pottery in 1973 and apprenticed himself to Takahara Shoji (1941–2000) for more than ten years. In 1985, he established his own kiln in Fukuda Tenguyama, Bizen City.
