Born in Kuji, Iwate Prefecture. Studied at the Yamagata Prefectural Industrial Research Institute and the Nagoya Institute of Technology, Seto Branch, before back to his hometown in 1957 to revive Kokuji ware. Also active in overseas exhibitions.
His son, Shimodake Satomi, is the eighth generation of the pottery owner and is keeping the tradition alive.
