From Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture.
From the age of 15 he trained in Banko ware, but since Banko ware was mass-produced at the time and he couldn’t demonstrate his individuality, he moved to Kyoto in 1922 to study Kyoto’s Kiyomizu ware.
Afterwards, he visited many famous kilns in various regions before returning home. Later on, his kiln was certified in Kobori Somei’s Enshu style and he took on the pseudonym Soraku.
