Born in Fukuoka Prefecture. First worked for Nippon Steel Corporation, while visiting kilns in Karatsu, Satsuma, and Arita to study. In 1965, he left the company and entered Bizen. The following year, he received training at the Bizen Training Center of the Okayama Prefectural Industrial Research Institute (now the Bizen Ceramics Center). Became independent in 1972.
