Born in Kanoya City, Kagoshima Prefecture. His pen name is Koseki. Trained at Chotaro Kiln in 1933. Later studied Shiro-Satsuma under Hashimoto Shozo and openwork under Morita Shichinosuke, and in 2004 went to the National Ceramics Research Institute in Kyoto as a prefectural trainee. During the war, he returned to work for the Kagoshima Prefecture Ceramic Company. He received an award for his contribution to the improvement of traditional Satsuma ware techniques.
