Born in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, he moved to Shodoshima Island, Kagawa Prefecture, with his father, Koetsu I, in 1945. The following year, he revived Kankake pottery, and in 1950, he succeeded Koetsu II. Mainly tea ceremony utensils and flower vases.
