Born in Toki, Gifu. Studied under Kato Kageaki and aspired to make his own ceramics. Graduated from the Japanese painting department of the Kyoto Institute of Design in 1952. Studied under Tomimoto Kenkichi. Founded the Yozan kiln in 1960. Built a semi-buried anagama hole kiln in Izumi-cho, Toki, in 1967. Primarily focused on Shino-ware and Seto Kuro-ware ceramics.
