Matsuyama Suketoshi graduated Teikoku Art School (currently Musashino Art University) the College of Craft and Design in 1944. During his time as a student, he worked as an apprentice to the living national treasure, Tomimoto Kenkichi. In 1946, he started working as an instructor in the Ehime Prefecture Uwajima Ceramic Factory, and became an apprentice to Kato Kobei the following year. In 1952, he established his kiln in Wakinoshima, Tajimi, but was invited to teach at Musashino Art University the following year. In 1955, he established a kiln in Kaiyuzan, Toki, Gifu Prefecture. He was appointed the head of Gifu Prefecture Toki City Artists Association in 1967. Upon teaching at various colleges, he held a group exhibition in San Francisco in 1976. He continued his pottery artist career, mainly holding solo exhibitions, and won various awards such as the Toki City Cultural Meritorious Person and Gifu Prefecture Art and Culture Honor, and devoted his life to educating future artists.
