From Ishikawa Prefecture. Graduated from the Faculty of Sculpture at the Kanazawa College of Art. Learned Iroe overglaze enamels and Kutani techniques from the previous generation Sakichi, his grandfather, and the present generation Sakichi, his father. Later studied under Somekawa Tetsunosuke. Selected for the Nitten Exhibition for the first time in 1962, selected numerous times since then, and became a Fellow Member of the Nitten. Member of the Japan New Craft Art Association.

Shoundo was a ceramic studio in Komatsu that has continued the mainstream of color Kutani painting from Matsumoto Sahei, son of Matsuya Kikusaburo, through Matsumoto Sakichi, Sakichi Matsumoto II, and Matsumoto Sakio. Later, when Shoundo went bankrupt, the building was purchased by Tokuda Yasokichi III, who donated it to the city, and the remains of the kiln were turned into a gallery space.
