Born in Kameoka, Kyoto prefecture. Completed an advanced course at the Kyoto Ceramics Specialized Vocational Training School. Was introduced to ceramics in 1972 by Taniguchi Ryozo, under whom he studied. Opened a Kaso kiln in 1982 and went independent. Primarily focused on tenmoku glaze and celadon teaware.
