He spent his youth in California and studied architecture in Los Angeles. He then worked as a structural designer in New York City for 20 years. After marrying Mizuho, the eldest daughter of Bizen Pottery artist Kimura Bifu, he began making pottery in Ibe, Bizen City. He is constantly seeking to incorporate unique designs that make use of his architectural background into traditional Bizen ware.
