Graduated from Meiji University. Later visited Beijin, and was inspired by the verdigris incense burner he saw there, leading him to take up ceramics. He would then occasionally travel to other countries, and what he saw inspired him to make greenware, Jun ware, decorated ceramic tiles, ceramic sculptures, tea bowls, etc. In 1963, he founded a kiln in Suginami. In 1976, he founded a kiln in Higashikurume, and his Higashikurume ware, made with clay from the site’s Jomon ruins, was picked up by the mass media.
