Born as the 1st son of the Shigaraki ware potter Furutani Michio. After graduating from a university in Yamaguchi and a vocational school in Kyoto, studied under his father starting in 1998. However, after his father’s passing in 2000 due to illness, virtually studied ceramics alone and took over his father’s kiln before starting 2 other cellar kilns in 2002 and 2005.
Selected for the Japan Traditional Craft Kinki Branch Exhibition for the first time in 2003. Mainly presented works at private exhibitions during private exhibitions in galleries and department stores.
