Sakamoto Shigeki 坂本茂木

Sakata Yoshihito 坂田佳仁

1948-maleIn 1973, studied at the Koishiwara pottery kiln in Asakura-gun, the traditional site of Kyusyu folk pottery, and studied under Kajiwara Fujinori. In 1976, he opened his own kiln. Sakata Minoru 坂田実

1936-?maleBorn in Kyoto, Japan. Graduated from the Faculty of Economics, Doshisha University. Awarded the Kyoto Prefectural Board of Education Prize at the Kinki Branch Exhibition of Japan Kogei Association in 1971. He was selected for many awards at the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition and the Kyoto Exhibition. Solo exhibitions at Mitsukoshi in Osaka, Iwataya in Fukuoka, Seibu in Ikebukuro, etc. Works mainly with tenmoku glaze, celadon, and ash glaze. Sakashita Mitsuo 坂下光雄

1919-?malesatsuma potteryBorn in Kanoya City, Kagoshima Prefecture. His pen name is Koseki. Trained at Chotaro Kiln in 1933. Later studied Shiro-Satsuma under Hashimoto Shozo and openwork under Morita Shichinosuke, and in 2004 went to the National Ceramics Research Institute in Kyoto as a prefectural trainee. During the war, he returned to work for the Kagoshima Prefecture Ceramic Company. He received an award for his contribution to the improvement of traditional Satsuma ware techniques. (more…)

Sakakibara Manabu 榊原学

1943-malebizen potteryThird son of Sakakibara Tsutomu of Bizen Koyasan kiln. He studied pottery under his elder brothers, Mitsugi and Kiyoto. In 1971, he returned home and became independent in 1981. He became the mayor of Waiiya Ceramic Village, which was jointly developed in Wake County. Awarded the Mayor’s Prize at the Traditional Craft Branch Exhibition. Sakakibara Hozan 榊原芳山

1917-?bizen potteryBorn in Inbe, they trained at Tokeido in 1932 and later studied under the first generation of Matsuda Kazan. After the war, they worked for a local brick company during the difficult period of Bizen Pottery and established Keisui Kiln in 1971. They have been producing mainly tea ceremony pottery, hand-molded teapots, original ceramic plate clocks, and vermilion mud works. (more…)
