Shinoda Noriaki 篠田典明

1956-maleBorn in Matsumoto City. Graduated from Meiji University. Studied at the Tajimi Ceramic Design Institute. Returned to his hometown in 1977 and studied under his father, Yoshikazu, and grandfather, Kondo Yuzo. Received the Newcomer’s Prize and Honorable Mention at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition. Awarded the SBC Prize and the Excellence Prize at the Nagano Prefecture Craft Association. Selected for the New Traditional Craft Exhibition and others. Member of the Prefectural Craft Association and the Prefectural Ceramic Society. Solo exhibition at Takashimaya Department Store in Nihonbashi, Osaka. Shinoda Giichi 篠田義一

1924-2010maleBorn in Nagano Prefecture. Began working under Kondo Yuzo in Kyoto. In 1946, he opened a climbing kiln in Asama Onsen, Matsumoto City.Exhibited at the Nitten from 1949 to 1961. He was selected for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition in 1962 and has been a regular member of Japan Kogei Association. Awarded Japan Kogei Association Prize. Awarded the Excellence Prize at the Exhibition of New Works of Traditional Crafts and was a judge at the same exhibition. Shinozaki Yuichi 篠崎有一

1944-maleBorn in Funaki-cho, Ehime Prefecture. Born to the head of the Soshin school of flower arrangement. Studied under Yano Kan’ichi of the Otani Kiln. Established his first kiln in 1978. Received the Shinsho Prize at the Shinsho Craft Exhibition and others. Special Prize at the Prefectural Exhibition. Ehime Ceramic Art Exhibition, Person Prize. Shizuku Joko 雫浄光

1925-?Born in Okayama Prefecture. Joined Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding in 1939, and later became a potter. Consecutively selected for the Okayama Prefecture Exhibition and the Japan Traditional Crafts China Exhibition. Solo exhibitions at Okayama Tenmaya, Takashimaya, Hiroshima Tenmaya, Fukuya, Tottori Daimaru, and Ginza Matsuzakaya. His works are mainly Tenmoku with oil drops and ancient white glaze based on his research of the characteristics of Chinese anthracite coal used as fuel for Tenmoku firing. 1953-femaleGraduated from Kyoto University of Arts with a degree in ceramics. While a student at Kyoto University of the Arts, she was inspired by Yagi Kazuo to start creating objects. Shiga Shigeo 志賀重雄

1928-2011maleBorn in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. Studied under Saito Saburo in 1948. Studied under Doi Kenroku, Nakajima Kiyoshi, Uchida Kunio in Kyoto and Hattori Shoju Kiln in Yamashina from 1952. In 1966, he moved to Australia to teach at an art and pottery institute. He won the gold medal at the Faenza International Exhibition. Served as a juror for the Australian and New Zealand International Exhibitions. Honorary member of the Australian Ceramic Society. 1943-femaleHer father was the Japanese painter Sakuraba Fujijiro. Graduated from Tokyo Gakugei University. Studied under Nagumo Ryu. Later established the Shien Kiln in Sasashita, Yokohama. 1932-?maletobe porcelainIn 1971, he established the Jingo Kiln in Iyo-gun, Ehime Prefecture, and became independent. In 1971, he established his own kiln, Kozato Kiln, in Iyo-gun, Ehime Prefecture, and won the Toko-kai Award at the Toko-kai National Exhibition and the Minister of Education’s Honorable Mention. Won prizes at the First Ehime Ceramic Art Exhibition and the Sangi-kai Exhibition, the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition, the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, and others. Shioiri Minoru 塩入稔

1952-maleBorn in Bihoro-cho. Trained at Kobushi-ware in Hokkaido and Taruoka-ware in Akita Prefecture from 1972. Returned to his hometown in 1976, established Bihoro kiln, and became independent. Won prizes at the New Traditional Craft Exhibition, the Musashino Exhibition, and the All Hokkaido Art Exhibition. Group exhibitions at Sapporo Mitsukoshi and Tokyu. Sawahata Kuninori 沢畠邦則

1952-maleGraduated from Takasaki University of Economics. After training at Nihonmatsu Banko ware, he studied under Hatakeyama Zekan of Echizen ware. He also studied kaiseki cuisine and the tea ceremony, and studied under Mori Chosai of Bizen ware. In 1982, he built semi-underground cellar kilns in Hitachi and Ota, and became independent. Sawafuji Masami 沢藤政美

1941-maleBorn in Kanaya, Chiba Prefecture. Began working at Tokyo’s Hazawa Kiln in 1977. Has been working at Hasegawa Kiln in Mashiko since 1981. Group exhibitions in Furukawa City, Miyagi Prefecture, Omagari City, Akita Prefecture, Kiyose, Tokyo and other places. He is a regular member of the Michinoku Hoshi no Kai.
