Sugihara Motoo 杉原基夫

1929-2016maleStudied under Ogahara Torakichi. Held an exhibition commemorating the 30th anniversary of the opening of Tenma Pottery at Kurashiki Mitsukoshi. Won prizes at the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition and others. Participated in the avant-garde artist group “Group Gen”. His main works are Tenmoku, celadon, and cinnabar. He completed the Yohen Tenmoku tea bowl that no one could reproduce in 1989, and was evaluated by five national appraisers including Mr. Lu Jimin, Director of the National Palace Museum in Beijing, China.In 2004, he moved to Nichinan-cho, Tottori Prefecture, and named his kiln Orochi kiln. 1946-maletamba potteryBorn in Tachikui, Tamba. Graduated from Kyoto Pottery Training School. Later helped his family in the pottery making business. Built a climbing kiln in 1973 and became independent. He was selected for the Japan Contemporary Craft Exhibition, the Japan New Craft Exhibition, the All Kansai Exhibition, and others. Awarded the Hyogo Prefecture Arts and Crafts Exhibition Artist Association Prize, the Kobe Newspaper Prize, and the Museum of Modern Art Prize. Sugita Shohei 3rd 三代 杉田祥平

1914-2000kyo potteryBorn in Kyoto, Japan. After graduating from the Second Technical School in Kyoto, he began studying under his father. After working at the Kyoto National Ceramic Research Institute, he took over the family business in 1950. He was a member of the Kyoto Traditional Ceramic Art Exhibition. 1942-maleGraduated from Tokoname High School. Returned to his hometown in 1961 and began to make ceramics. Exhibited at Chunichi International Exhibition and others. Awarded the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition Honorable Mention. Bronze Prize at the Ceramic Design Competition. Bronze Prize at the Asahi Ceramic Design Competition, Silver Prize at the Vallauris International Exhibition, and others. Produced a number of ceramic murals for Yubari City Hall in Hokkaido. Sugenaga Shin’ichiro 菅長慎一郎

1948-maleBorn in Hyogo Prefecture, he studied at the University of Paris for four and a half years from 1969. During that time, he was attracted to the world of art. 1953-Born in Inbe. Graduated from Bizen High School. Influenced by Matsuda Kazan and Matsui Yoshiyuki and trained by his uncle-in-law Shibaoka Koichi. After completing a course at the Ceramics Center, he worked at the Prefectural Industrial Research Institute and built a kiln in 1975. Received the Issuikai Award and is a member. He has been awarded prizes at the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition, the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, the Shinsho Exhibition, the Nitten exhibition, the International Ceramics Exhibition, and Chunichi International Exhibition.
