Tanaka Seizan 田中清山

1935-agano potteryThey first studied Western-style painting, and later studied under Takatori ware Sasayama Toko. In 1974, they opened their own kiln, Agano ware Seizan kiln, in Akaike, Fukuoka Prefecture. In addition to green and blue glaze, they use powder glaze and inlay. (more…)

Tanaka Kozo 田中孝三

1940-maleGraduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Musashino Art University in Tokyo, and studied under Chotaro III Ariyama Ryuseki (1908-1999) in Ibusuki, Kagoshima in 1965. Began training at Ginsho Kiln in 1970. He has been trained at Ginsho Kiln since 1970, and has been awarded prizes at the Southern Japan Art Exhibition, the Kagoshima Ceramic Art Exhibition, and the Kyushu Contemporary Craft Exhibition. His work is mainly based on traditional Satsuma techniques, especially kuro-satsuma work. (more…)

Tanaka Shojiro 田中庄二郎

1954-maleBorn in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Graduated from Tajimi Technical High School in Gifu Prefecture, majoring in pottery. Studied at the Hitomaru Hagi ware kiln, the Saikeiji kiln, the Agano ware kiln, and under Omiyaji Michiko of Mashiko. Later established the Hagi Shozan Kiln in Toyoura-gun, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and became independent. He was selected for the Western Craft Exhibition. Tanaka Junzo 田中淳三

1921-?maleBorn in Mashiko and graduated from Maoka Agricultural High School. Studied under Sugimoto Kotaro and established his own kiln in 1975. His family name, Nagato, is the name of his kiln. Tanaka Sajiro 田中佐次郎

1937-malekaratsu potteryBorn in Kitakyushu City, Japan, he began studying Jomon and Yayoi pottery in 1965. In 1966, he took part in the excavation of the old Karatsu kiln site and began to make pottery at the same time. Became a monk at Echizen Eiheiji Temple and took the Buddhist name Zenkai Hogetsu. His works have been selected for the All Japan Art Association Exhibition, the West Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, and the Kyushu-Yamaguchi Exhibition. Awarded the Art Public Opinion Prize. Participated in Chunichi Artists’ Exchange Exhibition. Solo exhibitions at Kokura, Ube, and Yawata Izutsuya stores. Representative of the Ancient Art Study Group. Tatebayashi Gen’uemon 6th 六代 館林源右衛門

1927-1989malearita porcelainIn 1960, he succeeded to the name of Gen’uemon , one of the three famous Arita kilns (Gen’uemon, Kakiemon and Imaemon). In 1970, he participated in the first survey of old Imari in the collection of the Dresden Museum in Germany and he was a member of the selection committee for negotiations on the homecoming of the museum’s old Imari in 1974. He has been a member of the Kofu-kai Exhibition, where he received the C Prize, the Supreme Prize, and the Kaiyu Prize. Awarded the Special Prize at the Kyushu Contemporary Craft Exhibition, the Governor of Saga Prefecture Award, and the Member of Excellence Award. Member of the Kyushu New Craft Federation. 1934-?maleBorn in Tokyo. Graduated from the Faculty of Literature, Toyo University. Left the literary world to enter the ceramic world. Established Kaizouji Kiln in Hayakawa, Odawara City and became independent. Selected for the New Traditional Craft Exhibition. Invited to exhibit at the Contemporary Teacups and Sake Cups Exhibition, and has held consecutive solo exhibitions since 1981.
