Tabuchi Koji 田淵康次

1952-maleBorn in Obata, Kanra Town. After graduating from Nihon University, he aspired to become a potter. He studied at Mino Yutaro Kiln and studied under Toshima Kazuhiko of Kurusaka, and in 1982, he revived the old kiln Kobata ware in Joshu, built a climbing kiln, and became independent. He also reproduces the traditional powder glaze of Joseon Dynasty and cinnabar red of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. (more…)

Tanemoto Koyo 種本光陽

1923-?Trained at Yunone Kiln in Seto since 1940. Later, while running his own company, he collected, studied, and made ceramics. He has been awarded prizes at the Mizunami City Exhibition and the Toki City Exhibition in Gifu Prefecture. Focuses on tea ceremony pottery with oil drops tenmoku and leaf tenmoku. (more…)

Tanuma Shunji 田沼春二

Tanimoto Yo 谷本洋

1958-maleiga potteryBorn in Iga-Ueno. Father, Mitsuo. Completed the Kyoto Pottery Training School and the Kyoto Kiln Testing Center. Returned to his hometown in 1982, studied under his father, and worked at Sansho-do of Mita-gama Kiln in Iga. Went to France in 1983 to study drawing and oil painting, and returned to Japan the following year. Tanimoto Kosei 谷本光生

1916-?maleiga potteryBorn in Iga-Ueno. He switched from Western-style painting to Iga pottery in 1946, studying under Komori Shinobu and Hineno Sakuzo.He studied under Komori Shinobu and Hineno Sakuzo, and in 1960, when his entry in the Nitten exhibition was cancelled a few days after it was announced that it had been selected, he began to question the group exhibition. Since then, he has been unaffiliated. Since 1963, he has held exhibitions of abstract ceramic paintings, tea ceremony ceramics in Iga ware, and father and son exhibitions with his eldest son, Kei, and second son, Yo, at major locations throughout Japan. Tanimoto Kei 谷本景

1948-maleiga potteryBorn in Iga-Ueno. Studied under Hineno Sakuzo and Kato Shinobu in Mino. In 1973, he went to Western Europe to study art and later held exhibitions of copperplate prints and ceramics in various places while based in Paris until 1977. Returned to Japan and succeeded to Mita-gama kiln. Not affiliated. Held solo exhibitions at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Department Store, Nagoya Sun Gallery, and Fukushima Toen Museum of Contemporary Art. Studied under Sawamura Jiro. Won the Grand Prize at the Tokai Traditional Craft Exhibition. Tanigawa Mokuzan 谷川黙山

1940-tokoname potteryStudied under Tanigawa Mokudo (1935-1980) in 1969.At Mokudo’s pottery studio, he uses, white mud, Nanban style, Mogake (the technique of firing clay with seaweed to make the parts that touch the seaweed turn scarlet), Rihidei (a mixture of different colored clay powder in a red clay teapot, etc., with fine dots that look like pear skin) to create ceramics with a modern style.
