1941-maleBorn in Kyoto. Graduated from Kyoto University of Art, majoring in ceramics. Studied under Tomimoto Kenkichi, Kondo Yuzo, and Fujimoto Yoshimichi. Built a kiln at his home in 1971 and became independent. Exhibited at the First Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition. Held exhibitions in Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo and other cities. Tsuji Koya 辻公也

1928-2018malearita porcelainBorn in Arita. Studied under Tomimoto Kenkichi. Later returned to his hometown and inherited the family business, producing frit and Arita paints from one generation to the next. In 1972, he became president of the Kyushu Craft Designers Association and promoted the craft movement. He has reproduced the secret colors of kobato (blue-black) and rikyu (greenish gray). Tsuji Kosei 辻厚成

1942-maleBorn in Tokyo, Japan. Studied at Wako Gakuen, Tamagawa Gakuen, and the University of Mexico, San Carlos. Creates sculptures, vases, etc., mainly using hand twisting and slab building. Solo exhibitions at Tokyo-Chuo-Koron Gallery, Nihonbashi Takashimaya Department Store, Shiroki-ya Department Store, Mitsukoshi Department Store, Okayama Kongo Gallery, Mexico Museum of Modern Art, Ginza Wako, etc. Dispatched to Mexico by the Japan External Trade Organization. 1930-2008femaleGraduated from the Western-style painting department of Joshibi University of Art and Design. Opened a climbing kiln with her husband, Kiyoaki, in Renkoji, Tama City in 1955. Tsuji Kanji 辻勘之

1933-maleEldest son of Kyoto potter Tsuji Shinroku. Graduated from Fushimi High School. Studied under his father and the Western-style painter Tsuboi Kazuo, and in 1955 joined Sodeisha, of which he has been a member ever since. Received the Gold Prize at the Kyoto Craft Exhibition, and the Kyoto Industrial Art Association Honorable Mention. Solo exhibitions at Kyoto Takashimaya Department Store, etc. Mainly works with marbled ware, jun ware, dark green glaze with gold paint, Shino, and overglaze enameled porcelain. (more…)

Tsukuda Hidemi 佃秀実

1936-maleGraduated from Kyoto University of Art. Studied under Tomimoto Kenkichi and Kondo Yuzo. Later worked at Seto Pottery High School before becoming independent. Awarded the Governor’s Prize at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition and was selected for the Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition of Japan and others. Tsukamoto Ryugen 塚本竜玄

1933-2013maleHis real name is Sadao. Studied under Nemori Etsuo, a professor at Hokkaido University of Arts and Sciences. Later, in 1986, he built a cellar kiln in Miruoto and opened Gen-gama kiln, naming it Miruoto ware. He was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Ceramic Exhibition. Selected for the Kofu-kai Exhibition, the Japan New Craft Exhibition, and the Douten Exhibition. Member of the Hokkaido Art Association. 1939-maleWhen he was in high school, he admired Kitaoji Rosanjin and aspired to become a potter. Studied under Yamamoto Kozan II from Toyama Prefecture, who helped Rosanjin. Tsukahara Minoru 塚原稔

1945-2015maleStudied under Watanabe Rokuro, built a kiln in Otsuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture in 1970, and opened a joint kiln in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture in 1980. Tsukahara Mitsuchika 塚原三千勝

1935-maleIn 1973, he built his own kiln. Later visited kilns all over Japan and was particularly fascinated by Shigaraki Kise clay. His works have been selected for the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition, the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, and others. Focusing on fire-colored unglazed ceramics. 1926-2019malesatsuma potteryBorn in Kagoshima Prefecture. Descendants of Korean potters brought to Satsuma from the Korean Peninsula at the end of the 16th century during Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s invasion of Korea. He was also featured as a protagonist in Shiba Ryotaro’s short story ‘Kokyo Bojigataku Soro (Hometown Oblivious)’, about the longing of the Korean potters for home.Works at Naeshirogawa, which supports the history of Satsuma ware along with the Ryumonji kiln.He has been a member of the Satsuma family of pottery for generations and is the 14th generation. Cho Sankichi 長三吉

1928-?malekutani porcelainBorn in Kashima-gun, Ishikawa Prefecture. Graduated from the Western-style painting department of Kanazawa College of Art, and began studying blue and white dyeing in 1970. He was selected for the Western-style painting division of the Issui-kai Exhibition 13 times in a row. Awarded the Hokuriku Art Exhibition. Received the Ishikawa Prefectural Governor’s Prize at the Wajima City Exhibition and the Honorable Mention Award at the Contemporary Art Exhibition. Honorable Mention, Issui-kai Exhibition.
