Ukida Akebono 浮田曙

1940 – ?malebizen potteryBorn in Bizen. Graduated from Okayama Kanzei High School in 1959. Began learning Bizen ware pottery while working at a brick-making company in his home town, and in 1973, he founded his own kiln and began independent work. Selected for the Traditional Crafts Chugoku Exhibition, prefectural exhibitions, and the Issuikai Ceramics Exhibition, among others. Has held personal exhibitions at Osaka Hanshin. Member of the prefectural Bizen ware Touyuukai. Creates ceramic sculptures using motifs like the zodiac, and specializes in flower vases. (more…)

Uematsu Takashi 植松隆

1948 –maleBorn in Tokorozawa. Graduated from Meiji University. Studied under Nitto Mitsuo. Began independent work in 1978. Selected for the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition, New Works Exhibition, Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition, and Chunichi International Exhibition of Ceramic Art, among others. Received multiple awards, including the Governor’s Choice award at the Saitama prefectural exhibition. Member of the prefectural Ceramic Artists Association. Specializes in kohiki and zougan. Ueno Yoichi 上野与一

1920 –?maleWent to a restored old kiln in Kaga and infused the old way of Kaga pottery with a touch of modernity. Founded his own kiln there in 1972, and founded an anagama kiln in 1982. After being part of Asia Modern Art and Toukoukai, he became a Shinkaijusha member and judge. Director and judge of the Ichiryusei International Art Society. Ueda Naokata 5th 五代 上田直方

1928 – 2016maleshigaraki potteryBorn in Shigaraki. In 1946, completed his studies at the Kyoto National Ceramics Laboratory. He then studied under Naokata IV, focusing on tea bowls. Assumed the Naokata name in 1976. Selected for the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition and Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition. Iwata Yasuhiro 岩田安弘

1947-maleBorn in Tajimi, to a family of potters. In 1982, his years of research into tenmoku pottery bore fruit, and he created a unique type of kiln. He has been awarded the Best Newcomer Award at Nipputen, and the Chairman’s Choice Award at the Toki municipal exhibition, among others.
