1932-?maleFrom Sasaguri, Fukuoka Prefecture. Graduated from Fukuoka High. Pursues ceramics alongside company management. Learned from Goya Fuyuo. Set up a kiln in Suemachi, Kasuya District, in 1974, and built a climbing kiln there in 1980. Selected for the West Japan Pottery Exhibition and others. Tenguji Tohakujin 天狗寺陶白人

1951-2020maleGraduated from Kyoto’s Fujikawa Design School in 1973. Started the Tengujigama pottery in Okayama in 1974. Apart from large kilns with unique design and construction and self-made bricks, as well as half-underground and half-overground kilns, he also investigates furnace openings, the presence or absence of stairs, angles, partition walls, and chimneys in order to build cellar kilns. He uses clay, ash, and stone from the Umasaku area and makes tea bowls, objects of art, and tableware using the Nanban, Oribe, ash-glaze and namakake (glazing before bisque firing) techniques. Terui Ichigen 照井一玄

1943-malearita porcelainFrom Waga District, Iwate Prefecture. Graduated from Waseda University. Went to Arita, Saga Prefecture, afterwards and learned pottery at Tatebayashi Gen’emon Kiln and Okugawa Tadaemon Kiln. Studied under Inoue Manji from 1971. Set up independently in 1981 and established Gakuyo Kiln. Selected for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition and others. Has had solo exhibitions in Saga C Art Salon, Minamiaoyama Green G, and Hakata and Tottori Daimaru. Regular member of the Japan Kogei Association. Focuses on white and blue-and-white porcelain. Has won prizes at and been selected for the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition, the New Works Exhibition, the Japan Ceramics Exhibition, etc. Does carbonized yakishime (high-fired unglazed ceramics), inlay work, and printed figures. Opened an old-style climbing kiln in Kurobe City, Toyama Prefecture, in 1976, separate from the one in Seto. Won the Cashew Award at the Kansai Integrated Exhibition. Selected for the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition, the Asahi Ceramics Exhibition and others. His works are permanently preserved in the Metropolitan Museum and the Carter Museum. 1933-?malekyo potteryReal name is Satoshi From Kyoto. Learned from his father, the first Gyokudo. Temporarily moved his kiln to Tobe, Ehime Prefecture, during the war. Founded the Gyokudo Toen pottery in Kyoto in 1953. Took part in the planning of the creation of the Sumiyama Ceramics Cooperative in Sumiyama, Uji, in 1975, and took office as director.
