Onishi Rakusai 5th 五代 尾西楽斉

1910-?maleakahada potteryThe Akahada-yaki Pottery is a pottery studio that carries on the tradition of Okuda Mokuhaku, a master craftsman of the Edo period who was instrumental in the revival of Akahada-yaki. His works are located near Horyu-ji Temple and at the Kaohashi Kiln under the Nara Koriyama Castle. His work was selected for the Nitten and Prefectural Exhibitions. Awarded the Toto Prize of the Toto Society and the Grand Prix of the World Art Exhibition of America. Director of the Art Association of Japan. 1909-?maleArtist name is Sekisen. He has been awarded many prizes, including the Iwate Art Exhibition Craft Division Award and the Honorable Mention. He has had solo exhibitions in Greece, Canada, Mexico, Paris, and other countries. He is a member of the Japan Ceramic Society. Oda Ichinen 尾田一念

1923-2007femalekaratsu potteryBorn in Fukuoka Prefecture. Switched from Western-style painting in 1963. Established her own style and became a popular female painter. Her works are mainly in the style of Karatsu, Old Imari and Joseon Dynasty style. Her eldest daughter, Hoen, won the Nishinippon Newspaper Award at the Kyushu Modern Craft Exhibition and others, and both mother and son did well. (more…)

1956-maleBorn in Niitsu, Niigata Prefecture. At first he studied under Homma Isao on Sado Island, and later under Matsuyama Norinao in Kasama. Established Oshimi Kiln in Niitsu in 1984. Notomi Kaijiro 納富介次郎

1844-1918maleBorn as the second son of Shintoist Shibata Hanamori (1809-1890), a samurai of the Saga clan, he learned painting from his father at an early age and was adopted by Confucian scholar Notomi Rokurozaemon when he was 16 years old.He also traveled to Shanghai with Nakamuta Kuranosuke, another Saga clan member, and Takasugi Shinsaku of the Choshu clan to work on trade research.At the beginning of the Meiji era (1868-1912), he moved to Yokohama in 1871 to study trade, and studied Western-style painting on the side.In 1977, he established Edogawa Pottery and devoted himself to experimental projects such as the (more…)
