Established Hinokuma-gama, inheriting the tradition of Hizen Ozaki ware in 1980. He was awarded the Seibu Arts and Crafts Prize. Selected for the Kyusyu-Yamaguchi Ceramic Exhibition, Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, and others.Hizen Ozakiyaki potteryIt is a pottery produced in Kanzaki City, Saga Prefecture. It is one of the oldest kilns in Kyushu, and according to legend, defeated soldiers living in Ozaki, who were half-captured after the Kouan War (1281), began making pottery using techniques brought from the continent. Katsuo Seiryudo 2nd 二代 勝尾青龍洞

1931-?maleshigaraki potteryHis real name is Akihik. Graduated from Kyoto Institute of Technology. Studied under his father, Seiryuudo and Kusube Yaichi. Withdrew from the Nitten and Modern Industrial Exhibition in 1985. The following year, he assumed the name Seiryudo 2nd. Held solo exhibitions at Daimaru Osaka, Green G in Minami Aoyama and Mitsukoshi in Nihonbashi, Tokyo and others. Kobiki and Shino are his main works. (more…)

Katayama Masami 片山雅美

1950-malekyo potteryLearned at the Kyoto Municipal Industrial Research Institute. Studied under Nishikawa Minoru. Became independent in 1977. Awarded at the Nitten and other exhibitions. Won the Nitten Craft Award, the Yomiuri Newspaper Award, the Kyoto Art Association Award at the Kyo-Ten (Kyoto Exhibition), the Akane Award, the Prefectures Exhibition Award, and the Mayor of Kyoto Prize at the Nisshin Kogyo Kinki Exhibition, among others. Katayama Makoto 片山一

1947-maleTrained at Asahikawa City Pottery Training Institute. Studied under Arata Koji at Kasama. Opened fujingama kiln in Asahikawa City at first, and later moved to Kawakami. Mainly used sketches, inlaid flowers, and inlays for large vases, bowls, and plates. (more…)

Katayama Tadayoshi 片山忠義

1914-?maletokoname potteryHe took the name “Hakuzan”. He was certified as a traditional craftsman of Tokoname ware in 1979. Awarded the Honorable Mention at the National Folk Crafts Exhibition and the National Traditional Crafts Exhibition. Kataoka Satoshi 片岡哲

1953-maleBorn in Kyoto. He completed his studies at the Tekisui Art Museum in 1976. Later, he worked at Tsunohatzu Pottery in Shinjuku, Tokyo. His work has been selected for a series of new traditional craft exhibitions. He has held a series of exhibitions at Mitsukoshi Department Store in Nihonbashi and Shinjuku. Kajiwara Jiro 梶原二朗

1947-malekoishiwara potteryBorn in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. He first studied under Okuda Yasuhiro at the Kagura pottery in Mie Prefecture. Later, he trained at a Koishiwara pottery and became independent. Awarded the Grand Prize at the Seibu Arts and Crafts Exhibition of Japan and the Grand Prize at the Mingei Exhibition. Kaji Masaaki 加治正明

1923-?maleBorn in Fukuoka Prefecture. He learned at the Takatori Higashi Sarayama Kiln in the city when he was in junior high school, where he had his first encounter with pottery. Later, while hospitalized for war wounds, he came into contact with Rosanjin of Kamakura and entered the world of ceramics. Selected for the Governor’s Award, Traditional Craft Exhibition and regional exhibitions. Mainly produces tea ceremony ceramics with tenmoku, well and iron glaze. (more…)

Kakumi Hideki 各見飛出記

Awarded the Branch Manager’s Prize and the Honorable Mention at the East China Branch Exhibition of the Japan Art Crafts Association, the Mayor’s Prize at the Bi-gei Exhibition, and the Honorable Mention at the Okayama Prefectural Exhibition. Komiomi Seiho 各見政峯

1921-?malebizen potteryBorn in Inbe. Studied lacquer painting under Namba Jinsai. Became a potter in 1949. He built a cellar kiln in 1962, a different kiln in 1965, and a ground-type cellar kiln in 1973. He was designated as an important intangible cultural property of Okayama Prefecture in 1980. He was awarded the Kinju Toyo Prize and the Sanyo Newspaper Award. Published poetry collections “Flame” and “Jomon Bizen”. He is a regular member of the Japan Industrial Arts Association. (more…)

1945-maleHe was born in Osaka. His father is Kazukei, kettle maker. Graduated from Kyoto Art University. Studied under Kondo Yuzo and Kiyomizu Kyubei. Became independent in 1982. Won prizes at the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition and other competitions. His works are mainly white porcelain, blue-and-white porcelain, and crimson under the glaze. Kakizaki Rakujo 柿崎楽青

1934-1989Studied at his brother Rakusho’s Toya-gama. At first, he opened the kiln in Yamakoshi district, and later moved to Kayabe. Won awards at the Japan Expressionist Exhibition, the Sekkosha Exhibition, and the Teachers’ Art Exhibition, among others. Worm-eaten Nanban is his main work. He makes glazes from nature (volcanic gravel, hot spring flowers, shells, trees, etc.) and creates his own unique style. (more…)
