1942-1997From Okawa, Kagawa Prefecture. Studied under Okamoto Kinzo. Trained at Tobe Umeno Pottery Center from 1960. Set up a kiln independently there in 1974. Won the Kagawa Prefecture Governor’s Prize with his first sculpted work. Won the Japan New Crafts Exhibition Prize. Selected for the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition and the Prefectural Exhibition. 1950-malemashiko potteryFrom Yamaguchi Prefecture. Graduated from the Department of Production Engineering at Nihon University. Decided to pursue pottery in 1974 and trained at Daishukugama Kiln. 1943-malesado karatsu potterySon of Nagahama Kazuuemon. From Aikawa, Sado. Graduated from Tajimi Industrial High School. Graduated from the Sculpture Department of Musashino Art University. First selected for the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition in 1966. Selected for the Japan Modern Crafts Exhibition and is a member; won the Members’ Commemoration Prize and is a judge. 1920-?malesado karatsu potteryFrom Aikawa, Sado. Started pursuing pottery in 1936. Studied under Miyanohara Ken at Niigata Toen Pottery. Set up a kiln independently in 1945. Has held solo exhibitions at Niigata Kobayashi Department Store, Daiwa, Ginza Shiseido G, etc. Had his works exhibited at the Aikawa Public Hall 30th Anniversary Exhibition and the Sado Public Hall 40th and 45th Anniversary Exhibitions. Nagano Toshio 永野敏男

1922-?maleFrom Otaki, Isumi District, Chiba Prefecture. Graduated from the craft department design course in the Tokyo School of Arts. Set up Sangetsuyo Kiln in 1973 in Umesato, known for its Yoshino plum frests. His Western paintings were consecutively selected for the first Independent Art Association Exhibition. Has served as vice-president of the Education Ceramics Research Association, and president of the Tama Ceramics Association. Selected for and won prizes at the Traditional Crafts New Works Exhibition and the Musashino Exhibition. Served as a lecturer of crafts at Nihon University and studied under Miyanohara Ken after the war. Kofukai member, councilor and judge. Became a Japan Fine Arts Exhibition member in 1976 and left after that. Started making ceramic walls in 1970. Nakano Geirin 3rd 三代 中野霓林

1950-malehagi potterytokoji potteryReal name is Masamichi. Makes pottery at Tokoji-gama kiln, which makes Hagi ware in Choshu. Inherited the name from the first Geirin, who made his name through donations to the imperial family, and the second Geirin, who reconciled yakishime pottery with the secret process of making Karatsu ware; he is the third Geirin. Has been selected for and won awards at the West Japan Ceramics Exhibition, the Asahi Ceramics Exhibition, the Yamaguchi Prefecture Exhibition, etc. Focuses on colored Hagi ware, Karatsu ware. Nakano Tochi 4th 四代 中野陶痴

1916-?malekaratsu potteryNakano Geirin the 4th but remaned Tochi. Graduated from the Osaka University of economics. Studied under his father Geirin. Trained at the Arita Ceramics Research Institute, and later became the fourth-generation successor of the Nakano Kiln. Served as director of the Karatsu Ware Cooperative. Has held solo exhibitions at Nihonbashi Takashimaya, Osaka Hanshin and elsewhere. Successfully restored the image of the four sages at Takusei Temple, a tangible cultural asset. 1949-femaleFrom Kobe. Studied under Araki Takako. Trained at the Kyoto Industrial Research Institute. Graduated from Kyoto University of Arts with a major in ceramics. Traveled to Europe from 1978 to 1981. Studied at Spain’s national Madrid Pottery School while viewing kilns around Western Europe. Learned relief and sculpture from the sculptor Manuel Alvarez. Returned to Japan and set up a studio in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture.
