Ono Toshiro 尾野敏郎

1903-1995malesodeshi potteryBorn in Shimane Prefecture. He studied under Yanagi Soetsu, Kawai Kanjiro, and Hamada Shoji, and later went to England with Bernard Leach. In 1942, he was designated by the government to preserve the Sodeshi kiln technique. He received the Grand Prix at the Brussels World Exposition. He held an exhibition at Mitsukoshi Department Store in Nihonbashi, Tokyo in 1970 to commemorate his 50th year in the pottery business. He is a leading figure in folk pottery. (more…)

Ono Hiroshi 小野洋

1947-maleBorn in Yamagata Prefecture. Graduated from the Tokyo Craft Design Institute. Studied under Watanabe Rokuro. Became independent in 1977. Awarded a prize at the Traditional Craft New Work Exhibition. Solo and group exhibitions including Mito Keisei and Ginza Matsuya Works mainly in gray glaze (Irabo) with comb pattern and line patterns. (more…)

Ono Taku 小野卓

1948-maleBorn in Ibaraki Prefecture. Graduated from Tsuchiura Technical High School. After working as a photographer and editing magazines and commercials, entered Kasama in 1971, and studied under Matsui Kosei. Became independent in 1974. He was awarded prizes at the prefectural exhibition and the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition and the New Traditional Craft Exhibition. Works mainly in celadon. (more…)

Ono Hakuko 小野珀子

1915-1996femaleShe is the eldest daughter of Ono Kozan. She studied ceramics at the Amber Pottery run by her father.In 1992, she was designated as an important intangible cultural asset by Saga Prefecture as the holder of the “Yurikinsai, ceramic glaze underglaze gold painting” technique. In the underglaze gold glaze technique, thick gold leaf is applied to the base, a low-fire glaze is applied, and the piece is fired.Counting from the unglazed firing, the gold leaf is fired six times to give a subdued taste. Awarded the Asahi Newspaper Award at the Western Japan Art Crafts Association Exhibition, Asahi Broadcasting Corporation Award, Japan Art Crafts Association Award, second place of Kyushu-Yamaguchi Ceramic Art Exhibition, Japan Broadcasting Corporation Award, and the Excellence Award at the West Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, among others. Awarded the Excellence Prize at the West Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition and others. Awarded a prize at the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition and others. 1910-?maleakahada potteryThe Akahada-yaki Pottery is a pottery studio that carries on the tradition of Okuda Mokuhaku, a master craftsman of the Edo period who was instrumental in the revival of Akahada-yaki. His works are located near Horyu-ji Temple and at the Kaohashi Kiln under the Nara Koriyama Castle. His work was selected for the Nitten and Prefectural Exhibitions. Awarded the Toto Prize of the Toto Society and the Grand Prix of the World Art Exhibition of America. Director of the Art Association of Japan.
