Ogami Shikao 大上鹿男

1923-2013maletamba potteryBorn in Tanba Takikake. Worked at one of the six oldest kilns in Japan, Tanba-yaki pottery. Came back to work in 1950 and inherited the family business of pottery making. He has been aiming at producing pottery that is widely popular, mainly for daily use. Awarded by the Governor of Hyogo Prefecture in 1973 and many other awards. His main skills are traditional decoration such as flowing decoration, round crests, leaf patterns, line carving, and cylindrical painting, as well as simple fire-clad ceramics. (more…)

Okane Masami 大兼正巳

1949-maleBorn in Motegi, Tochigi Prefecture. Graduated from the Department of Arts, Faculty of Humanities, Wako University. Apprenticed at the Tochigi Prefectural Pottery Training Institute in 1974. Studied at the Tochigi Prefectural Pottery Training Institute in 1974 and studied under Takato Omiyaji in 1975. Became independent in 1979 and established his own kiln in 1979. Oe Sachihiko 大江幸彦

1930-maleseto potteryHis wife’s father is Oe Fumio, a master craftsman. He has won prizes at the Nitten, the Modern Craft and Beauty Exhibition, the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition, etc., as well as the Governor’s Award and the Asahi Newspaper Company Award. He makes abstracts, tea ceremony ceramics and tableware with gray, white and green glazes. (more…)

Oishi Tokuyuki 大石督幸

1949-2016malekyo potteryBorn in Kyoto Prefecture. Graduated from the prefectural training school for ceramic art. Studied tea ceremony pottery at Nishimura Tokusen Workshop and built the kiln in Fushimi, Kyoto in 1980. Won prizes at the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition, the Kinki Branch Exhibition, the Kyoto Exhibition, and others. Solo exhibition at Osaka Centurion, etc. Main works are tenmoku (iron glazed), celadon and blue-and-white porcelain. (more…)

Okamoto Takaaki 岡本孝明

1938-maleSecond son of Okamoto Shiichi (1907-1996). Studied under his father in 1961 and produced ceramics. Received many awards including the National Exhibition, the President’s Award of the East China Branch of the Japan Art Crafts Association, and the Prefectural Governor’s Award. Selected for the Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition and others. Commissioned for the prefectural exhibition. Solo exhibition at Okayama Tenmaya and others. Mainly specializes in iron painting, nuki-e and inlaying. (more…)
