Born in Inbe. Studied lacquer painting under Namba Jinsai. Became a potter in 1949. He built a cellar kiln in 1962, a different kiln in 1965, and a ground-type cellar kiln in 1973. He was designated as an important intangible cultural property of Okayama Prefecture in 1980. He was awarded the Kinju Toyo Prize and the Sanyo Newspaper Award. Published poetry collections “Flame” and “Jomon Bizen”. He is a regular member of the Japan Industrial Arts Association.
