Graduated from Kyoto’s Fujikawa Design School in 1973. Started the Tengujigama pottery in Okayama in 1974. Apart from large kilns with unique design and construction and self-made bricks, as well as half-underground and half-overground kilns, he also investigates furnace openings, the presence or absence of stairs, angles, partition walls, and chimneys in order to build cellar kilns. He uses clay, ash, and stone from the Umasaku area and makes tea bowls, objects of art, and tableware using the Nanban, Oribe, ash-glaze and namakake (glazing before bisque firing) techniques.
