Born in Chiba, Japan. Graduated from Tajimi City Institute of Ceramic Design. Currently based in Gifu Prefecture.
He has attracted domestic and international attention for his contemporary designs using a technique called “Hotarude,” in which a hole is drilled in the white porcelain material formed on a wheel, the hole is covered with a transparent glaze, and then fired to reveal a pattern that is permeable to light. In this exhibition, he will present not only works with exquisite designs unique to white porcelain, but also works that focus on the bold aspects of porcelain during the production process.
Major exhibitions and awards include: “Japanese Art of the Super Craft of the Reiwa Period,” Panasonic Shiodome Museum of Art (Tokyo/2020); “Porcelain in the Tea Room Today by Six Contemporary Artists,” Shukinsai Ichijuan Nezu Museum (Tokyo/2017); “Contemporary Tea Ceremony Ceramics – I Want to Show It to Rikyu! -The Contemporary Tea Ceremony Ceramics: Rikyu’s Wish to Show Us” at The Museum of Ceramic Art, Ibaraki (2017), U-50 International Hokuriku Craft Award Incentive Prize (2017), and others.
