Grew up in Hiroshima Prefecture. Graduated from Kyoto University of Art. Studied under Tomimoto Kenkichi and Kondo Yuzo. He later founded the Youwa kiln in Kochi, in collaboration with his former classmate Nishimura Shigeru.
