Born in an Iga pottery kiln. Completed an apprenticeship at the Kyoto Ceramics Research Institute of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Studied overglaze painting under Tanaka Tokin, design under Mizumachi Wasaburo, technique under Ogawa Shinichiro, and Japanese painting under Deguchi Tusiseki. Won a prize at the Craft Exhibition of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. After the war, he participated in the founding of Happu-Toen and concentrated on the development of techniques and designs. Focusing on the traditional techniques of Banko ware, overglaze enamels, celadon, cinnabar, Mishima, and Yohen tenmoku.
