The second son of Takahashi Rakusai III. He grew up with his brother(Rakusai IV) watching his father work, eventually aspiring to become a Shingaku ware ceramist himself.
He studied at the Saga Ceramic Research Center, Kyoto Prefectural Ceramists’ Technical Institute, and so on, and after further honing his skills established his own kiln in 1968.
