The second son of Dohachi IV, he inherited the name in 1915. He was loyal to the Dohachi tradition in making his ceramics, and was especially skilled at making sometsuke tea bowls.
He also had strong ties with Makuzu II and Kiyomizu Rokubey, trying his hand at underglazed pottery as well, and presented a large vase at the coronation of His Majesty the Emperor in 1928.
